Statement Against Heterosexual Marriages Only

Statement

On Synod’s disregard of the anthropological and biological scientific discoveries regarding sexuality in the last 48 years.

Mr. Huizinga taught Old Testament and Reformed Theology for 39 years and is on the board of All One Body. In an age when people often work for multiple companies, teaching these subjects for 39 years is very commendable.

Two of the main thoughts of Huizinga’s video are given here:

“Synod’s mandate to arrive at the same conclusion as 1973 essentially put a straitjacket on committee members.”

Nature tells us God created a spectrum of sexuality before the fall. Diversity in biological sexuality may have been God’s intent from the beginning.

Response

It is true synod 2016 mandated that committee members had to subscribe to the decision of 1973 to start with, but they were not mandated to arrive at the same conclusion. And it is also true that they then studied the research of the last 48 years. They spent five years doing it. Huizinga implies the committee ignored the last 48 years. How do we know that the committee didn’t look at the research of the last half century and concluded many claims being made today are not correct? Can one clear example be given of solid research that the committee has not properly taken into account? A clear example of such would be quite telling.

The fact that they were required to agree with 1973 in 2016 does not mean that they must arrive at same conclusion in 2021. It is like a doctoral dissertation that someone is going to give; it has to be defended. Has anyone in these All One Body videos shown the committee has not taken research properly into account? I have not found such an example. Have I missed it? Responses have been given to most of the videos. If I have missed it, please point that out to me.

This video claims that God created more than binary examples of sexuality. However, it doesn’t present a case for that. There are very few, if any scientific theories that are held unanimously. Therefore, we need to look at the evidence for that claim. Where can that be found? Is this another claim for creational variants? With the absence of a case that one can examine, this video can be taken as an expression of what one man believes, but it will not do much, if anything, to help convince others that they should subscribe to this view, too. Without a case supporting the theory, it remains opinion, but cannot offer much substance to the discussions.
