Plausible Interpretations Do Not Require Unity

Statement Against Unity Requires Us To Agree To Disagree

Needed: A Plausible Interpretation for Same-Sex Marriage

Many theological issues have plausible arguments on both sides. One example here is the debate over infant baptism versus believer’s baptism. Another is the matter of divine election versus free will. There are many topics which Christians disagree over, but strong arguments can be found on both sides of these issues.

The matter of same-sex marriage also has upstanding Christian theologians on both sides. I believe it was John Calvin who taught that the best theologian, at his best is 80% correct.(1) In reading arguments by reputable Christian theologians one needs to be prepared to discern whether what is being taught falls into that theologians 80% or is 20%. Same-sex marriage is a matter that affects many Christians’ lives in a very significant way. It certainly does not fall into the category of how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Many proposals for same-sex marriage have been considered. At this point in time, none of them have been found to be convincing. In order for Dr. Peabody to argue as he does in the Statements that unity must be the order of the day because there are plausible arguments on both sides, in order for that approach to be relevant there needs to be at least one argument for same-sex marriage that is plausible. These pages are available for anyone to recommend an argument for same-sex marriage which they believe to be plausible. This endeavor of examining the pros and cons of same-sex marriage can be benefited by making contributions. Readers are invited to go to the Contact Us page to submit material for inclusion in consideration.
